A summary of the main R&D&I initiatives implemented at the Trápaga Plant in 2022 is provided below, related to new product development for its key strategic sectors.
In the downstream area, work has continued in 2022 on two projects focused on high-added-value products:
- The first initiative, with the acronym GEDIERR, aims to generate digital twin records of the products that the plant manufactures and intends to manufacture in the future for high-demand energy applications in 9% Cr martensitic steels and nickel-based materials.
- The second initiative, with the acronym TUSAND, aims to develop technology to manufacture seamless piping with a diameter of more than 10 inches through a back-step rolling process, providing corrosion-resistant materials in duplex and super-duplex grades for the oil and gas industry.
For the development of these R&D&I projects, we have the support of the Basque Government (Hazitek), the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
